7. Why Do I Need Diabetes Holiday Insurance If I Have a GHIC?
With the GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) you have access to use state-provided healthcare in countries in the EU at the same level as a local would receive.
However, the GHIC shouldn’t be a substitution holiday insurance, as some areas that is covered under diabetes holiday insurance not GHIC:
- Private medical treatment, if this is the most appropriate place for you to be treated for injuries or your medical condition
- The cost of being getting you back to the UK if medically necessary (known as repatriation)
- Unexpected incidents such as trip cancellations, travel delays, or lost/damaged luggage
