Frequently Asked Questions About Disabled Travel Insurance
1. Do You Have to Declare Disabilities on Travel Insurance?
Yes, it’s important to let us know about any disabilities when you get a quote.
Being open helps ensure your travel insurance for a disabled person remains valid while you’re away. It also means you’ll have the right level of cover in place for your specific needs, whether you’re looking for cover for physical disabilities, sensory conditions, or learning disability travel insurance.
If anything changes with your health before you travel, it’s also important to let us know so your cover stays up to date.
2. What Will I Be Asked When Buying Disability Holiday Insurance?
When getting a quote for disability holiday insurance, you’ll need to answer a few medical screening questions. The questions will vary depending on your condition, but may include:
- Diagnosis & Medical History – Specific disability you’ve been diagnosed with
- Medical Procedure – Any treatments or procedures you’ve had and how recently they were carried out
- Severity of Condition – How your condition affects your daily life
Rest assured, your answers are always kept completely confidential.
3. Can I Rely on The GHIC Instead of Travel Insurance for Disabled People?
The GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) gives access to state healthcare in the EU. However, it is not a substitute for travel insurance for the disabled, as there are some aspects that the GHIC doesn’t cover.
For example, it won’t cover costs for private medical treatment if necessary or to get you back home to the UK (known as medical repatriation). Additionally, GHIC doesn’t cover trip cancellation, travel delays, and replacement of mobility and disability equipment if it gets lost or damaged.
4. What Mobility Aids Are Covered by Holiday Insurance for Disabilities?
Our holiday insurance for people with disabilities covers items such as non-motorised wheelchairs, walking frames, and sticks.
Please note: these mobility and disability equipment items need to belong to you. If they are borrowed or rented, they won’t be covered.
5. What Types of Holiday Insurance for Disabled People Available to Choose From?

- Single Trip Cover: Ideal for those going on one-off holidays, and cover begins from your trip start date until the day you return home.
