Frequently Asked Question About Over 75s Travel Insurance

1. What type of holiday insurance for over 75s should I choose?

Able2Travel offers two types of holiday insurance for seniors, depending on how often you travel:

While single trip cover may cost less, an annual policy can save time. Once your medical conditions are declared, you usually won’t need to repeat screening unless your health changes. Cover then applies to every trip within the policy period.*

*Annual Multi-Trips available up until the age of 79.

2. How much does travel insurance for over 75 with medical conditions cost?

The cost of your Over 75s travel insurance depends on several factors, including:

  • Your age and the age of any travellers on the policy
  • The level of cover selected and any optional extras
  • Your destination area
  • Trip duration
  • Any declared medical conditions
3. What optional extras are on offer?

Our policy offers several optional extras, such as Winter Sports, optional additional Cruise Cover and Sports Travel insurance.

4. Is there a maximum trip duration for over 75s travel insurance?

The maximum trip duration length of cover available on a single trip policy depends on both your age and your destination:

Age UK Europe Worldwide
65 or under 365 days 365 days 365 days
66–79 45 days 45 days 45 days
80–85 31 days 31 days 31 days*
86+ 23 days 23 days 23 days*

*Please note: no cover available for travellers aged 80+ travelling to worldwide locations including USA, Canada, the Caribbean or Mexico.

Annual multi-trip policies have a standard maximum trip length of 31 days, with extension options depending on age and cover level.

  • Up to the age of 65: Able2Travel can be extended to 45 or 60 days on Gold or Platinum levels of cover, with the payment of an additional premium
  • Aged 66 to 75: Able2Travel can be extended to 45 days on Gold or Platinum cover, with the payment of the additional premium

7. How do I get a quote for over 75s holiday insurance?

Getting an Over 75s travel insurance quote with Able2Travel is straightforward:

  1. Tell us about your trip – choose your destination, when you’d like cover to begin, and who will be travelling
  2. Complete the medical screening about any health issues you have had – this can be done online or over the phone
  3. Get your personalised quote
  4. Compare travel insurance for seniors across three levels of cover and choose the option that suits you best
  5. Add optional extras to tailor the policy to your needs, such as cruise cover or winter sports cover
8. Why should I get over 75s holiday insurance if I have a GHIC?

The GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) provides access to state healthcare in the EU. However, it doesn’t replace travel insurance for seniors with pre-existing conditions, as it doesn’t cover:

  • Private medical treatment, if this is the most appropriate place for you to be treated
  • Trip cancellations, travel delays, or lost/damaged luggage
  • Emergency medical transport back to the UK (known as repatriation)

With over 75s holiday insurance, you also get cover for unexpected incidents like trip cancellations, travel delays, or lost/damaged baggage while you’re away.

9. What happens if my medical condition changes after I’ve bought a policy?

If your health changes after you have bought your travel insurance, please let us know promptly to ensure you remain fully covered. You need to tell us if you have any change where you had to:

  • See a specialist or consultant
  • Go to hospital for treatment, tests, or surgery
  • Wait for treatment or test results
  • Change your regular medication
