Frequently Asked Questions About Winter Sports Travel Insurance

1. What Types of Holiday Insurance for Winter Sports Are Available?

We provide flexible holiday insurance for winter sports to solo travellers, families, and seniors. Options include:

2. Can I Buy Winter Sports Travel Insurance After My Trip Has Started?

Unfortunately, cover is not available once your trip has already begun. To make sure you’re protected before you travel, you may want to consider an annual holiday insurance including winter sports.

With an annual policy, you would be covered for each trip you decide to go on within the 12-month period. If you go on one winter holiday and spend the rest of the year on beach or city breaks, your annual policy still provides cover for all of them.

3. Is My GHIC Enough for My Winter Sports Holiday?

No. While your Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) is essential for travel in the EU, it is not a substitute for winter sports travel insurance.

Your GHIC entitles you to access state-provided healthcare in the EU on the same terms as a resident of that country. However, there are some things your GHIC does not cover:

  • Medical Emergencies & Repatriation: The high cost of air ambulances (which are often privately owned) and emergency medical flights back to the UK.
  • Private Medical Treatment: Private medical facilities are very common around ski resorts, and you may be sent there if it’s the most suitable option for your treatment.
  • Search & Rescue: The extremely expensive cost of mountain rescue operations, which are critical in alpine environments.

If you incur costs for any of these without appropriate Travel Insurance, you are likely to have to foot the bill yourself, even if you have a GHIC.

4. What Medical Conditions Does Winter Sports Holiday Insurance Cover?

Our winter sports holiday insurance is designed for travellers with medical conditions including chronic, complex, and ongoing illnesses. This list includes examples of medical conditions we have covered:
