You’re certainly not alone either. Over five million people in the UK are currently receiving treatment for asthma, including around 1.1 million children and 4.3 million adults.
Our asthma travel insurance provides cover for a range of situations, including emergency medical expenses abroad and trip cancellations if your condition prevents you from travelling, to replace medication if it’s lost or stolen.

Frequently Asked Questions About Asthma Travel Insurance
1. Who Is Able2Travel Asthma Travel Insurance For?
Our specialist policies are designed for anyone who needs to declare asthma, including those who:
- Have recently been diagnosed with asthma
- Are currently managing their condition, whether it is mild or severe
- Have a history of asthma, regardless of how long ago it was active
2. Do I Still Need to Declare If I Have Mild Asthma?
Yes. Even if your asthma is mild and you rarely use an inhaler, it is still considered a pre-existing medical condition. This means you must declare it when purchasing your travel insurance for mild asthma.
Being open about your medical condition ensures you get the suitable mild asthma travel insurance cover for your needs and, most importantly, that your policy is valid.
If your asthma changes in any way after you've taken out your policy, please let us know so we can ensure your cover remains up to date.
3. Why Do I Need Asthma Travel Insurance If I Have a GHIC?
While the GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) gives you access to state-provided healthcare in EU countries, it doesn’t act as a substitution for travel insurance for asthma sufferers. The GHIC has important limitations on what it can cover. For example, it won’t cover costs for private medical treatment and getting you home if medically needed (known as repatriation).
Additionally, travel insurance for asthma sufferers provides protection against problems like trip cancellations or lost baggage while abroad.
4. What Questions Will I Be Asked About My Asthma?
To make sure your holiday insurance with asthma provides the right protection, we’ll ask a few straightforward questions about your medical condition. Rest assured, your responses are always kept strictly confidential.
They will typically cover areas such as:
- Hospital Admissions – Details about any unplanned hospital visits you've had for your breathing condition in the last 12 months
- Current Treatment – Information about the medication you're regularly prescribed and any oxygen use
- Severity of Symptoms – The current impact of your asthma on your daily life and whether you've had any recent serious infections
5. What Types of Asthma Holiday Insurance Policies Are Available?
Able2Travel provides flexible holiday insurance for asthma sufferers, including solo travellers, families, and seniors – to suit a variety of needs
- Single Trip Cover: Perfect for one-off holidays, providing cover from the day your trip begins to the day it ends
- Annual Multi-Trip Cover: Designed for those who love to travel more than once a year, this cover protects all your trips within 12-month period
