Frequently Asked Questions About Depression Travel Insurance

1. Who Is Able2Travel Depression Travel Insurance For?

Our specialist policies are designed for anyone who needs to declare depression, including those who:

  • Have recently been diagnosed with depression
  • Are currently managing their condition (e.g., through therapy, medication, or other support)
  • Have a history of depression, regardless of how long ago it was active

We also offer travel insurance for those with other mental health conditions or a range of pre-existing medical conditions.

2. Do You Have to Declare Depression on Travel Insurance?

We understand that sharing details about your health can feel personal, but rest assured all information is treated with sensitivity and confidentiality.

It’s important to declare if you have a diagnosis or have received any treatment, medication, or therapy for depression. Declaring your condition ensures your cover is valid and tailored to your needs.

If your depression changes after you’ve taken out your policy, please let us know so we can keep your cover up to date.

3. What Questions Will I Be Asked About My Depression?

To make sure your holiday insurance provides the right protection, we’ll ask a few straightforward questions about your depression. Rest assured, your responses are always kept strictly confidential.

They will typically cover areas such as:

  • Hospital admissions – Have you been admitted to hospital for your condition in the last two years?
  • Treatment – Have you been referred to or treated by a psychiatrist, or prescribed any medication?
  • Past trips – Has your condition ever caused you to cancel or cut a trip short?
4. Which Type of Travel Insurance with Depression Cover is Right for You?

Finding the appropriate travel insurance for depression sufferers depends on how you travel. At Able2Travel, there are two policy types you can choose from:

  • Single Trip Cover: Perfect for one-off holidays, providing cover from the moment you depart until you return home, giving you peace of mind for the entire trip
  • Annual Multi-Trip Cover: Ideal for frequent travellers, this policy covers all trips taken within a 12-month period, without the need to arrange cover each time
5. What Destinations are Covered Under Holiday Insurance for Depression?

At Able2Travel, we offer cover for depression in Europe and worldwide. From staycations in the UK to city breaks in Europe and long-haul worldwide trips. Our cover is divided into five areas:

UK Only Coverage (For UK Residents Only)

  • Area 1: Includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as Isle of Man

Europe Coverage

If you’re going on holiday to Europe, you can choose between two types of travel insurance for depression:

  • Area 2: Includes all countries in Area 1, Western & Northern Europe, Mediterranean Islands, and Eastern Europe
  • Area 3: Includes all countries in Areas 2, and including Turkey

Worldwide Coverage

If your trip involves travelling beyond Europe, you’ll need travel insurance with depression cover. For this, there are two options to choose from:

  • Area 4: Includes all countries in Areas 1, 2 and 3 (excluding the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico)
  • Area 5: Includes all countries including those in Areas 1, 2, 3 and 4
6. How to Get Your Quote for Depression Travel Insurance?

The process of arranging travel insurance for people with depression is straightforward and stress-free with Able2Travel.

  1. Tell us about your trip – choose your destination, when you’d like cover to begin, and who will be travelling
  2. Complete the medical screening about any mental health issues and any other medical conditions you have had – this can be done online or over the phone
  3. Get your personalised quote
  4. Compare three levels of cover and choose the option that suits you best
  5. Add optional extras to tailor the policy to your needs, such as cruise cover or winter sports cover
7. Why Do I Need Depression Travel Insurance If I Have a GHIC?

Even though the GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) gives you access to state-provided healthcare in EU countries, it isn’t a substitute for travel insurance. The GHIC has important limitations, as it doesn’t cover:

  • Private medical treatment, if this is the most appropriate place for you to be treated (which can be costly abroad)
  • The cost of being brought back to the UK if medically necessary (known as repatriation)
  • Trip cancellations, travel delays, or lost/damaged luggage
