2. Why Choose Annual Family Holiday Insurance Instead of Single Trip?
With family travel insurance on an annual basis, planning your trips becomes easier as you don’t need to sort out cover for each trip. It also reduces the time and effort required for medical screening, as you don’t need to declare them again, unless there is a change in your conditions.
- With travel insurance for family on single trip, not only do you have to buy a new policy for each trip. You also need to declare your family’s medical conditions every time you travel.
- With an annual family policy, you only complete the medical screening once. That cover then applies to every trip your family takes in the next 12 months
3. Does Annual Family Travel Insurance Cover Individuals to Travel Separately?
Yes – Family members covered under a Platinum level of cover annual policy can travel independently. Please note: you would need to select 'Platinum' as the level of cover for your family annual travel insurance.
4. What Destinations are Covered Under Able2Travel Family Holiday Insurance?

UK Only Coverage (For UK Residents Only)
- Area 1: Includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as Isle of Man
Europe Coverage
If your family is travelling in Europe, you can choose between two types of European family holiday insurance:
- Area 2: Includes all countries in Area 1, Western & Northern Europe, Mediterranean Islands, and Eastern Europe
- Area 3: Include all countries in Areas 2, and including Turkey
Worldwide Coverage
If you're trip involves travelling beyond Europe, you’ll need worldwide family travel insurance. There are two options:
- Area 4: Includes all countries in Areas 1, 2 and 3 (excluding the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico)
- Area 5: Includes all countries including those in Areas 1, 2, 3 and 4
5. Do I Need Family Travel Insurance for a UK Holiday?
Even if you're not travelling abroad, it's still wise to arrange family travel insurance for a UK staycation. While the NHS covers emergency medical expenses, our policies offer additional protection. This includes unplanned holiday cancellations, travel delays, and lost or damaged baggage during your staycation.
6. Why Should I Get Family Holiday Insurance If I Have a GHIC?
While the GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) provides access to state healthcare in the EU, it does have some limitations.
The GHIC only provides cover in a state medical facility to the same level as a local would receive, with Family holiday insurance cover is for the most appropriate medical facility, this may include private medical facilities if it’s the most suitable option for your family. Family travel insurance also includes medical repatriation to the UK if medically necessary.
