Chicken Pox Travel Insurance
For the Love of Travel, with Cover Designed for Chickenpox
A family holiday is something everyone looks forward to. However, if your child develops chickenpox before your trip, it can quickly turn excitement into uncertainty.
Chickenpox is one of the most common childhood illnesses in the UK. While most children recover within a few weeks, the condition can sometimes disrupt travel plans as it is highly contagious. At Able2Travel, we specialise in providing travel insurance for people with pre-existing medical conditions.
Our chickenpox travel insurance could help protect you against unforeseen costs if someone insured unexpectedly gets chickenpox and affects your holiday plans. This includes trip cancellation and emergency medical assistance abroad, as well as cover for replacement medication if it is lost, stolen or damaged during your trip.
You would also be covered for common travel disruptions such as travel delays, missed departures, or lost or damaged baggage.
Whether you're planning a family beach holiday or a city break, Able2Travel can help you travel with confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chickenpox Travel Insurance
1. Does Travel Insurance Cover Chicken Pox?
Yes, provided it is declared during the medical screening process when getting a quote. Chicken pox is considered a pre-existing medical condition.
If you or your child has had chicken pox, it's important to be open about any medical conditions when getting a quote. This helps ensure you receive the appropriate cover and that your policy remains valid.
If there has been a change to this condition or any other health issues while your policy is active, it's also important to let us know so your cover stays up to date.
2. What Types of Chicken Pox Travel Insurance Policies Are Available?
Able2Travel provides flexible travel insurance with chicken pox that fits how you travel. You can choose from two main policy types:
- Single Trip Cover: Ideal for one-off trips. Cover starts from the start date of your trip and ends until the day you return home.
- Annual Multi-Trip Cover: Perfect if you enjoy travelling more than once within the 12-month period.
3. Why Do I Need Travel Insurance for Chicken Pox If I Have a GHIC?
The GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) gives you access to state-provided healthcare in EU countries. However, the GHIC is not a substitute for travel insurance for chickenpox.
The GHIC has important limitations on what it can cover. For instance, it doesn’t cover the costs for private medical treatment, if it was the most suitable option to receive treatment. It also doesn’t cover the cost of returning to the UK if medically necessary, often referred to as medical repatriation.
Additionally, travel insurance for chickenpox includes cover for other holiday-related issues. For example, holiday cancellations, baggage that is lost or damaged, and replacement of lost or delayed prescribed medications.
4. What Destinations are Covered Under Chickenpox Holiday Insurance?
At Able2Travel, we offer chickenpox holiday insurance to Europe and beyond. From staycations in the UK to city breaks in Europe and long-haul worldwide trips. Our cover is divided into five areas:
UK Only Coverage (For UK Residents Only)
- Area 1: Includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as Isle of Man
Europe Coverage
If you’re going on holiday to Europe, you can choose between two types of cover for Europe, based on the countries you are travelling to:
- Area 2: Includes all countries in Area 1, Western & Northern Europe, Mediterranean Islands, and Eastern Europe
- Area 3: Include all countries in Areas 2, and including Turkey
Worldwide Coverage
If your trip involves travelling beyond Europe, you’ll need a worldwide policy for countries outside of Europe. Able2Travel has two options to choose from:
- Area 4: Includes all countries in Areas 1, 2 and 3 (excluding the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico)
- Area 5: Includes all countries including those in Areas 1, 2, 3 and 4
