Frequently Asked Questions About Glaucoma Travel Insurance
1. Do You Have to Declare Your Glaucoma on Holiday Insurance?
Yes, it's essential to declare glaucoma if you have a diagnosis or have received any treatment or medication for it. This is because glaucoma is a pre-existing medical condition.
Being open about your condition ensures you get the suitable cover for your needs and, most importantly, that your policy is valid.
If there has been a change in your medical condition after you have taken out your policy, please let us know so we can ensure your cover remains up to date.
2. Does Glaucoma Affect Travel Insurance Price?
Yes. As glaucoma is a pre-existing medical condition, you will need to declare it during the medical screening process. Depending on your circumstances, this may result in an additional premium being applied to your policy. This helps ensure you have suitable cover in place for your trip.
3. What Types of Glaucoma Travel Insurance Policies Are Available?
At Able2Travel, we offer two main types of glaucoma travel insurance, depending on how often you travel:
- Single Trip Cover: Ideal for those going on one-off trips. This policy covers from the day you leave until you return home.
- Annual Multi-Trip Cover: Perfect for frequent travellers. This option provides cover for unlimited trips within a 12-month period.
This way, whether you’re planning a single relaxing holiday or going on multiple trips in a year, you can find the suitable cover.
4. Why Do I Need Travel Insurance for Glaucoma If I Have a GHIC?
While the GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) gives you access to state-provided healthcare in some European countries, it’s important to arrange travel insurance as well.
This is because there are limitations on what the GHIC can cover, which are covered by travel insurance instead.
For example, travel insurance can cover the costs for private medical treatment if necessary or to get you back home to the UK (known as medical repatriation). Also, you can get cover for common travel disruptions, including trip cancellation, travel delays and lost belongings.
5. What Destinations are Covered Under Glaucoma Holiday Insurance?
At Able2Travel, we offer glaucoma holiday insurance to Europe and beyond. From staycations in the UK to city breaks in Europe and long-haul worldwide trips. Our cover is divided into five areas:
UK Only Coverage (For UK Residents Only)
- Area 1: Includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as Isle of Man
Europe Coverage
If you’re going on holiday to Europe, you can choose between two types of cover for Europe, based on the countries you are travelling to:
- Area 2: Includes all countries in Area 1, Western & Northern Europe, Mediterranean Islands, and Eastern Europe
- Area 3: Include all countries in Areas 2, and including Turkey
Worldwide Coverage
If your trip involves travelling beyond Europe, you’ll need a worldwide policy for countries outside of Europe. Able2Travel has two options to choose from:
- Area 4: Includes all countries in Areas 1, 2 and 3 (excluding the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico)
- Area 5: Includes all countries including those in Areas 1, 2, 3 and 4
6. How to Get Your Quote for Holiday Insurance for Glaucoma?
The process of getting a holiday insurance quote for glaucoma is straightforward. Here's how:
- Tell us about your trip – choose your destination, when you’d like cover to begin, and who will be travelling
- Complete the medical screening about your glaucoma or other medical conditions you have had – this can be done online or over the phone
