Frequently Asked Questions About Travel Insurance After a Hip Replacement
1. Do You Have to Declare Hip Replacement on Travel Insurance?
Yes — if you have undergone hip replacement surgery, it’s important that you declare this when purchasing your travel insurance.
Being open about your condition ensures you get the suitable cover for your needs and, most importantly, that your policy is valid.
If anything changes with your health before you travel, it’s also important to let us know so your cover stays up to date.
2. Can I Get Joint Replacement Travel Insurance While on A Waiting List?
Whether you’re on a waiting list for a replacement surgery for your hip, knee or other joints, it does not always mean you cannot travel. At Able2Travel, we review each case individually, and in some situations, it is possible to arrange suitable travel insurance cover.
In certain situations, cover can also be included for cancelling or shortening your trip due to changes in your treatment schedule. Our team is here to explain your options and help you find the cover that suits your needs.
Please call us on 01483 806 826 if you want to get a quote for your travel insurance for joint replacement or hip replacement.
3. What Will I Be Asked When Buying Hip Replacement Holiday Insurance?
To help provide the right cover, you’ll need to answer a short set of medical screening questions when buying hip replacement holiday insurance. Rest assured, your responses are always kept strictly confidential.
The questions may include when doing medical screening for:
- Current Treatment – Medications prescribed, or whether you’re awaiting tests, results, or surgery
- Underlying Cause – Information about medical condition or other reasoning that led to undergoing the surgery
- Severity of Condition – How your condition affects your mobility
- Medical Procedure – Information about how many procedures you have received for your hip or treatment for other parts of your body (neck or back)
- Hospital Admissions – Any unplanned hospital stays related to this condition in the last 12 months
Rest assured, your responses are always kept strictly confidential.
4. What Types of Hip Replacement Holiday Insurance Are Available?
At Able2Travel, we offer two main types of holiday insurance after hip replacement cover, depending on how often you travel:
- Single Trip Cover: For those going on a one-off trip, and this policy covers you from the day your trip begins until you return home
- Annual Multi-Trip Cover: Designed for travellers who travel more than once a year. This option covers unlimited trips within a 12-month period.
5. What Destinations Does Travel Insurance After Hip Replacement Cover?
At Able2Travel, we offer travel insurance for people who have had a hip replacement and are travelling to Europe and further afield. From staycations in the UK to city breaks in Europe and long-haul worldwide trips. Our cover is divided into five areas:
UK Only Coverage (For UK Residents Only)
- Area 1: Includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as Isle of Man
Europe Coverage
If you’re going on holiday to Europe, you can choose between two types of hip replacement holiday insurance, based on the countries you are travelling to:
- Area 2: Includes all countries in Area 1, Western & Northern Europe, Mediterranean Islands, and Eastern Europe
- Area 3: Include all countries in Areas 2, and including Turkey
Worldwide Coverage
If your trip involves travelling beyond Europe, you’ll need worldwide holiday insurance after hip replacement, which includes cover for countries outside of Europe. There are two options to choose from:
- Area 4: Includes all countries in Areas 1, 2 and 3 (excluding the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico)
- Area 5: Includes all countries including those in Areas 1, 2, 3 and 4
6. Why Do I Need Holiday Insurance After a Hip Replacement If I Have a GHIC?
With the GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card), it gives you access to state-provided healthcare in some European countries. However, there are limitations on what GHIC can cover.
For example, it won’t cover the costs for private medical treatment abroad and medically necessary transport back to the UK, often referred to as repatriation. Holiday insurance after hip replacement can provide cover for these situations, as well as protection against problems such as holiday cancellations, travel delays and lost baggage.
