Frequently Asked Questions About Sciatica Travel Insurance

1. Do I Have to Declare Sciatica on Travel Insurance?

Yes - sciatica is a pre-existing medical condition. This means that you will need to declare sciatica if you have a diagnosis or have received any related treatment for it.

Being open about your condition helps ensure you receive suitable cover for your needs and that your policy remains valid.

If there has been a change in your medical condition after you've taken out your policy – such as a change in medication or symptoms. Then you would need to let us know, so we can update your policy, and it remains up to date.

2. Can I Get Travel Insurance Whilst Under Investigation for Sciatica?

Being on a waiting list for tests or investigations does not automatically mean you cannot travel.

At Able2Travel, cover may be available in certain circumstances if you need to cancel or cut short your trip. This could include situations where you are required to attend an appointment for an investigation or receive investigation results.

Our team is here to explain your options, so just get in touch by calling us on 01483 806 826.

3. What Will I Be Asked When Buying Sciatica Travel Insurance?

If you have a pre-existing medical condition such as sciatica, there are some medical screening questions you would need to answer when getting a travel insurance quote.

These are designed to make sure your policy gives you the right cover. The questions will typically cover areas such as:

  • Current Treatment – Details of any medication you take and whether you’re awaiting tests, results, or surgery
  • Hospital Admissions – Details about any unplanned hospital visits you've had for your condition in the last 2 years
  • Medical Treatment – Information about any treatments or procedures you have received for your sciatica in the last 12 months
  • Severity of Symptoms – The impact sciatica has on your everyday life

Rest assured, your responses are always kept strictly confidential.

4. Can I Rely on The GHIC Instead of Travel Insurance with Sciatica Cover?

The GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) provides access to state-provided healthcare in EU countries. There are limitations to what the GHIC covers. Some costs that may be covered under your travel insurance including sciatica would not be covered by the GHIC.

For example, the costs for private medical treatment and to get you back home to the UK (known as medical repatriation), won’t be covered under GHIC.

Additionally, it doesn’t cover against other travel problems, such as trip cancellation, travel delays, and replacement of prescribed medication if it gets lost or damaged.

5. Which Types of Travel Insurance for Sciatica Are Available?

At Able2Travel, we offer two main types of cover, depending on how often you travel:

  • Single Trip Cover: Perfect for travellers going on one specific trip, providing cover from the start date of your trip until you return home
  • Annual Multi-Trip Cover: Ideal if you're planning to take more than one trip during a 12-month period
6. What Destinations are Covered Under Sciatica Travel Insurance?

At Able2Travel, we offer travel insurance for sciatica to Europe and beyond. From staycations in the UK to city breaks in Europe and long-haul worldwide trips. Our cover is divided into five areas:

UK Only Coverage (For UK Residents Only)

  • Area 1: Includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as Isle of Man

Europe Coverage

If you’re going on holiday to Europe, you can choose between two types of European cover, based on the countries you are travelling to:

  • Area 2: Includes all countries in Area 1, Western & Northern Europe, Mediterranean Islands, and Eastern Europe
  • Area 3: Include all countries in Areas 2, and including Turkey

Worldwide Coverage

If your trip involves travelling beyond Europe, you’ll need a worldwide policy. Able2Travel has two options to choose from:

  • Area 4: Includes all countries in Areas 1, 2 and 3 (excluding the USA, Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico)
  • Area 5: Includes all countries including those in Areas 1, 2, 3 and 4
7. How to Get Your Travel Insurance Quote for Sciatica?

The process is straightforward and stress-free:

  1. Tell us about your trip – choose your destination, when you’d like cover to begin, and who will be travelling
  2. Complete the medical screening about your sciatica or other medical conditions you have had – this can be done online or over the phone
  3. Get your personalised quote
  4. Compare three levels of cover and choose the option that suits you best
  5. Add optional extras to tailor the policy to your needs, such as cruise cover or winter sports cover
