Why You Need to Add Winter Sports Cover to Your Travel Insurance

Our Able2Travel winter sports travel insurance covers the general travel problems as standard, such as emergency medical expenses abroad, cancellation and travel delays.

However, all winter sports risks aren’t automatically covered under a standard travel insurance policy.

By adding optional winter sports cover, your travel insurance with ski cover is extended include cover against winter-sports risks. For example, include cover for emergency medical treatment if you’re injured while participating in winter sports, as well as costs for piste rescue where required.

The winter sports extension can also provide additional benefits specific to a ski or snowboarding holiday. This includes missed pre-booked snow-based activities, loss, theft or damage to ski equipment, and search and rescue costs.

Frequently Asked Questions About Winter Sports Insurance Cover

1. What Medical Conditions Does Ski Cover Travel Insurance Cover?

Our ski cover travel insurance is designed for travellers with medical conditions. Below are examples of pre-existing health conditions we have covered before:

When arranging skiing holiday insurance cover, you will complete a medical screening to declare all medical conditions. This helps ensure that the cover provided is appropriate and that your policy remains valid.

2. Which Types of Holiday Insurance Can I Add Ski Cover To?

We offer two types of holiday insurance with ski cover, depending on how often you plan to travel. You can add optional ski cover travel insurance to:

3. Why Choose Annual Travel Insurance with Winter Sports Cover Instead of Single Trip?

If you ski or snowboard more than once a year, annual travel insurance with winter sports cover may be more convenient than arranging separate policies.

With annual holiday insurance with ski cover:

  • You can take multiple trips during the 12-month policy period (with a maximum trip duration of 21 days for each trip)
  • You complete medical screening once when arranging the policy
  • Cover for declared medical conditions applies to each eligible trip you take during the 12-month period

If your health changes, you would need to update your medical declaration before travelling.

4. Would My GHIC Be Enough for My Winter Sports Holiday?

No — a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) is not a substitute for ski cover travel insurance when travelling within the EU. A GHIC may provide access to state healthcare in certain countries, but it doesn’t cover:

  • Emergency repatriation back to the UK
  • Private medical treatment (which is common in ski resorts)
  • Mountain rescue or search and rescue costs
5. What Is the Process for Getting a Skiing Holiday Insurance Cover Quote?

It is a simple process to get skiing holiday insurance cover with Able2Travel:

  1. Provide trip details: Tell us where you're travelling, your dates, and who is on the trip
  2. Complete a medical screening: Declare any medical conditions you have
  3. Get your personalised quote: We’ll give you a price tailored to your specific needs
